Below are the official texts for the Litany of the Irish Saints as published in The Irish Ecclesiastical Record, Volume 18 (1921). The Latin text was issued first, followed by the authorized translations into Irish and English. The Irish text was printed in the old script which I cannot easily reproduce, so I have given only the Latin and English texts.

LITANY OF THE IRISH SAINTS

WE give in this issue the authorized translations into Irish and English of the Litany of the Saints of Ireland, the original of which, with the accompanying decree of the Congregation of Rites, appeared in the October issue (pp. 433-35). According to the decree the new Litany may be recited not only as a private devotion, but also publicly in all the churches of Ireland, the net result of the Roman approval being that as a liturgical devotion this Litany throughout the Irish Church is placed on an equality with the other five Litanies of the Ritual officially sanctioned for public recitation. The approval of a national Litany is a very great privilege, in fact, with one possible exception, a privilege, as far as we know, without precedent in the history of the Roman Congregations. It is a special favour of the Holy See granted to the Irish Church which, we are sure, the Irish people throughout the world will duly appreciate and be grateful for.

The Irish Bishops have ordered the recitation of the Litany as part of the Novena for Peace in preparation for the celebration of the special Feast of the Irish Saints on November 6, and arrangements have been made that copies of the translations herein given be circulated in every diocese, without delay. In all future editions of prayer-books for use in Ireland, the Litany of the Irish Saints will be expected to appear, and thus, it is to be hoped, our people will become in time as familiar with the names of those Irish Saints as they are with the several invocations of Mary's Litany. It was a happy thought to have the official English and Irish translations sanctioned by all the Bishops, for we have therein the guarantee of uniformity, so important for a national Litany from a liturgical point of view, and so much to be desired in the promulgation of it.

It will be observed that the composition of this Irish Litany follows closely the model of the Litany of the Saints, and can be sung in the Gregorian tunes prescribed for the latter. It is something to be grateful for that the several Saints' names are mentioned without accompanying appendages or designations; it is so much simpler and more dignified to have merely the Saint's name, and so much easier to have a musical setting for the Litany in this simple form. We notice also that the liturgical order of dignity, characteristic of the Litany of the Saints, is here preserved, viz., Martyrs, Confessors-Pontiff, Confessors non-Pontiff, Virgins. So strictly is this order adhered to that St. Killian comes before St. Patrick and Saints Columba, Kevin, Brendan, Canice, and Kieran, though principal Patron Saints, are not included in the section wherein all the other diocesan Patrons occur. Within the section of Confessors-Pontiff the order is provincial, the Patrons and Saints of the Armagh Province coming first, then those of Dublin, next those of Cashel, and lastly those of Tuam. St. Celestine, who sent St. Patrick to Ireland, fittingly heads the list, next St. Patrick himself, the Apostle and Patron of all Ireland, and then, in their due order, the Patrons of the four archdioceses with those of their suffragan dioceses. Thus we find the name St. Colman occurring in three distinct places: first, the Patron of Dromore, second, the Patron of Cloyne, and third, the Patron of Kilmacduagh. St. Nicholas also, though not an Irish Saint, secures a place in the list as Patron of Galway diocese. Many will regret the omission of the great St. Enda of Aran the omission being due, of course, to the fact that his name does not appear with a Mass and Office assigned to his feast in the Irish Proper of the Missal and Breviary. Some rule had to be adopted if the invocations of the Litany were not to outstep all reasonable limits the number of Irish Saints being almost countless and the rule adopted of including only those already approved in the Irish Proper was, after all, perhaps the one fraught with least difficulty. The only thing wanting to stimulate the devotion of this beautiful Litany amongst the faithful will be the concession of an Indulgence a favour which we may hope will soon be granted by the same authority which has so benignly conferred this signal honour upon the Irish Church.

.Jésus-Christ, Fils de Dieu, toi qui nous as manifesté le Père des Cieux, fais de nous tes disciples.
Tu as promis de donner la paix à nos âmes, mais tu ne veux pas de serviteurs négligents.
Accorde-nous la force de rester vigilants, de veiller.
Donne-nous de t’être fidèles, d'une fidélité unique.
Apprends-nous à agir toujours devant ta face, fais de nous tes enfants.
Accorde-nous la force d'accomplir ta volonté, tes préceptes.

Prêtre orthodoxe russe d’origine juive, le P. Alexandre Men connu un très grand rayonnement spirituel, intellectuel et pastoral. Il fut assassiné en septembre 1990, en allant célébrer la liturgie dans sa paroisse.

The most holy Cross, the invincible trophy, cometh forth today, revealed from the earth like a hidden treasure, enriching the whole world with the rays of its universal goodness. Wherefore, we glorify the all-good dispensation of Christ our God, Who deigned to be crucified thereon.
Of old, the Cross, depicted by Moses, the faithful beholder and favourite of God, the divine prophet, routed the hordes of adversaries; and now, depicted in the divine elevation at the hands of the sacred ministers, it dispelleth the hordes of the demons and the assemblies of the Jews, and is the reproof of the audacity of the ungodly.
Thy Cross, O our Saviour, is the invincible might of Christians, whereby multitudes of alien nations are vanquished, and the peace of Thy Church, O Christ, is bestowed upon those who render goodly glory. Venerating it now, we entreat Thee, O Thou Who lovest mankind: Count us worthy of a portion with Thy saints.

From Tarsus of Cilicia thou didst flee before the onslaught of the Moslems, O saint, as from a mighty tempest at sea; and having found a safe haven in the West, in obedience to Christ, the great Merchant, thou didst set forth for the land of England, there to invest the talants entrusted to thee by Him; and since thou didst increase them many fold, thou hast manifestly entered into His joy.
O holy bishop of Christ, thou didst not concern thyself with earthly things, but above all else didst set thy heart on things above. Wherefore, setting forth the sacred canons of the Church, thou didst uproot from among thy sheep and lambs the manifold abuses and vile practices wherewith Satan had ravaged thy flock. And having thus preserved it from the assaults of the spiritual wolf, thou didst present it safe unto Jesus, the Chief Shepherd.

O ye faithful, let us clap our hands in gladness and lift our voices in praise to God for bestowing upon us so great a bishop as the wondrous Theodore, whose apostolic labors in the land of England bore fruit in abundance. For as he ever taught the people the holy virtues and instructed them in the pure doctrine of Christ, they became such good Christians that they aspired only after the joys of the kingdom of heaven, though such had only lately been preached to them.

Assembling the bishops of thy province, O Theodore, with them thou didst condemn the vile heresy of the Monothelites, committing to anathema the accursed Dioscorus and Eutyches, and confirming with all solemnity the decisions of all the Oecumenical Councils, thereby strengthening the walls of thy fold, to keep the reason-endowed sheep of thy flock safe from the spiritual thieves and robbers who sought to steal them from Christ the Lord, the Chief Shepherd.

Extracting the venom of the Monothelite heresy like a skilled physician, O Saviour, Theodore ably applied the healing poultice of Orthodoxy, proclaiming Thy divinity and manhood to all the people, and crying: We glorify Christ, the Destroyer of death, and we bow down before Him, our one God.

Even those who once sat in spiritual darkness and shadow didst thou teach to sing the splendid hymns of the Church, which the holy bishop Gregory devised and bequeathed unto Christians, O Theodore who art most rich.
Effulgent with the radiance of the countenance of Christ Who loveth mankind, with the radiance of the Spirit thou didst illumine the English people, enlightening their darkness and bringing peace to their benighted souls, O saint.
Angles derived great profit from thy sacred ministrations, O holy bishop, and Saxons cast their spiritual gloom from off themselves; for through thee, O hallowed Theodore, were their souls filled with divine radiance.

Out of the blasphemies of our age deliver us, O saint of God, for as the Apostle foretold, we are verily beset by the unholy, who, though they assume the guise of godliness, deny the power thereof. By thine aid help us to turn away from such, who are reprobates concerning the Holy Faith.

The Cross is the preservation of the whole world; the Cross is the adornment of the Church; the Cross is the might of kings; the Cross is the confirmation of the faithful; the Cross is the glory of angels and the wounding of demons.
