Dio ha mandato il Figlio nel mondo, perchè il mondo sia salvato per mezzo di lui.
Dal Vangelo secondo Giovanni
Gv 3,16-21
In quel tempo, Gesù disse a Nicodèmo: «Dio ha tanto amato il mondo da dare il Figlio unigenito, perché chiunque crede in lui non vada perduto, ma abbia la vita eterna. Dio, infatti, non ha mandato il Figlio nel mondo per condannare il mondo, ma perché il mondo sia salvato per mezzo di lui. Chi crede in lui non è condannato; ma chi non crede è già stato condannato, perché non ha creduto nel nome dell'unigenito Figlio di Dio. E il giudizio è questo: la luce è venuta nel mondo, ma gli uomini hanno amato più le tenebre che la luce, perché le loro opere erano malvagie. Chiunque infatti fa il male, odia la luce, e non viene alla luce perché le sue opere non vengano riprovate. Invece chi fa la verità viene verso la luce, perché appaia chiaramente che le sue opere sono state fatte in Dio».

In illo témpore: Venit Iesus in partes Cæsaréæ Philíppi, et interrogábat discípulos suos, dicens: Quem dicunt hómines esse Fílium hóminis? At illi dixérunt: Alii Ioánnem Baptístam, alii autem Elíam, alii vero Ieremíam aut unum ex prophétis. Dicit illis Iesus: Vos autem quem me esse dícitis? Respóndens Simon Petrus, dixit: Tu es Christus, Fílius Dei vivi. Respóndens autem Iesus, dixit ei: Beátus es, Simon Bar Iona: quia caro et sanguis non revelávit tibi, sed Pater meus, qui in cœlis est. Et ego dico tibi, quia tu es Petrus, et super hanc petram ædificábo Ecclésiam meam, et portæ ínferi non prævalébunt advérsus eam. Et tibi dabo claves regni cœlórum. 13 Poi Gesù, giunto nei dintorni di Cesarea di Filippo, domandò ai suoi discepoli: «Chi dice la gente che sia il Figlio dell'uomo?» 14 Essi risposero: «Alcuni dicono Giovanni il battista; altri, Elia; altri, Geremia o uno dei profeti». 15 Ed egli disse loro: «E voi, chi dite che io sia?» 16 Simon Pietro rispose: «Tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio del Dio vivente».
17 Gesù, replicando, disse: «Tu sei beato, Simone, figlio di Giona, perché non la carne e il sangue ti hanno rivelato questo, ma il Padre mio che è nei cieli. 18 E anch'io ti dico: tu sei Pietro, e su questa pietra edificherò la mia chiesa, e le porte dell'Ades non la potranno vincere. 19 Io ti darò le chiavi del regno dei cieli; tutto ciò che legherai in terra sarà legato nei cieli, e tutto ciò che scioglierai in terra sarà sciolto nei cieli»
In that time: Jesus came into the quarters of Caesarea Philippi: and he asked his disciples, saying: Whom do men say that the Son of man is? But they said: Some John the Baptist, and other some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets. Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven

Gospel: JN 3:16-21
God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
