Gv 6,1-15
In quel tempo, Gesù passò all'altra riva del mare di Galilea, cioè di Tiberìade, e lo seguiva una grande folla, perché vedeva i segni che compiva sugli infermi. Gesù salì sul monte e là si pose a sedere con i suoi discepoli. Era vicina la Pasqua, la festa dei Giudei.
Allora Gesù, alzàti gli occhi, vide che una grande folla veniva da lui e disse a Filippo: «Dove potremo comprare il pane perché costoro abbiano da mangiare?». Diceva così per metterlo alla prova; egli infatti sapeva quello che stava per compiere. Gli rispose Filippo: «Duecento denari di pane non sono sufficienti neppure perché ognuno possa riceverne un pezzo».
Gli disse allora uno dei discepoli, Andrea, fratello di Simon Pietro: «C'è qui un ragazzo che ha cinque pani d'orzo e due pesci; ma che cos'è questo per tanta gente?». Rispose Gesù: «Fateli sedere». C'era molta erba in quel luogo. Si misero dunque a sedere ed erano circa cinquemila uomini.
Allora Gesù prese i pani e, dopo aver reso grazie, li diede a quelli che erano seduti, e lo stesso fece dei pesci, quanto ne volevano. E quando furono saziati, disse ai suoi discepoli: «Raccogliete i pezzi avanzati, perché nulla vada perduto». Li raccolsero e riempirono dodici canestri con i pezzi dei cinque pani d'orzo, avanzati a coloro che avevano mangiato.
Allora la gente, visto il segno che egli aveva compiuto, diceva: «Questi è davvero il profeta, colui che viene nel mondo!». Ma Gesù, sapendo che venivano a prenderlo per farlo re, si ritirò di nuovo sul monte, lui da solo.

In that time, Jesus said to his disciples: I am the true vine; and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me, that beareth not fruit, he will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now you are clean by reason of the word, which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine: you the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burneth. La vite e i tralci
1 «Io sono la vera vite e il Padre mio è il vignaiuolo. 2 Ogni tralcio che in me non dà frutto, lo toglie via; e ogni tralcio che dà frutto, lo pota affinché ne dia di più. 3 Voi siete già puri a causa della parola che vi ho annunciata. 4 Dimorate in me, e io dimorerò in voi. Come il tralcio non può da sé dare frutto se non rimane nella vite, così neppure voi, se non dimorate in me. 5 Io sono la vite, voi siete i tralci. Colui che dimora in me e nel quale io dimoro, porta molto frutto; perché senza di me non potete fare nulla. 6 Se uno non dimora in me, è gettato via come il tralcio, e si secca; questi tralci si raccolgono, si gettano nel fuoco e si bruciano. 7 Se dimorate in me e le mie parole dimorano in voi, domandate quello che volete e vi sarà fatto.

John 11:1–44
11 Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. 3 So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” 4 But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. 7 Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” 8 The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?” 9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” 11 After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” 12 The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” 13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. 14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died, 15 and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” 16 So Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”
17 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”
28 When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in private, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” 29 And when she heard it, she rose quickly and went to him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him. 31 When the Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary rise quickly and go out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32 Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled. 34 And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” 37 But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man also have kept this man from dying?”
38 Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

Lettura dagli Atti degli Apostoli (12, 25; 13, 1 - 13)
Bàrnaba e Saulo, compiuta la loro missione, tornarono a Gerusalemme prendendo con loro Giovanni, detto anche Marco.
C’erano nella comunità di Antiòchia profeti e dottori: Bàrnaba, Simeone soprannominato Niger, Lucio di Cirène, Manaèn, compagno d’infanzia di Erode tetrarca, e Saulo. Mentre essi stavano celebrando il culto del Signore e digiunando, lo Spirito Santo disse: << Riservate per me Bàrnaba e Saulo per l’opera alla quale li ho chiamati >>. Allora, dopo aver digiunato e pregato, imposero loro le mani e li accomiatarono.
Essi dunque, inviati dallo Spirito Santo, discesero a Selèucia e di qui salparono verso Cipro. Giunti a Salamina cominciarono ad annunziare la parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe dei Giudei, avendo con loro anche Giovanni come aiutante. Attraversata tutta l’isola fino a Pafo, vi trovarono un tale, mago e falso profeta giudeo, di nome Bar-Jesus, al seguito del proconsole Sergio Paolo, persona di senno, che aveva fatto chiamare a sé Barnaba e Saulo e desiderava ascoltare la parola di Dio. Ma Elimas, il mago, - ciò infatti significa il suo nome – faceva loro opposizione cercando di distogliere il proconsole dalla fede. Allora Saulo, detto anche Paolo, pieno di Spirito Santo, fissò gli occhi su di lui e disse: << O uomo pieno di ogni frode e di ogni malizia, figlio del diavolo, nemico di ogni giustizia, quando cesserai di sconvolgere le vie diritte del Signore? Ecco la mano del Signore è sopra di te: sarai cieco e per un certo tempo non vedrai il sole >>. Di colpo piombò su di lui oscurità e tenebra, e brancolando cercava chi lo guidasse per mano. Quando vide l’accaduto, il proconsole credette, colpito dalla dottrina del Signore.
Salpati da Pafo, Paolo e i suoi compagni giunsero a Perge di Panfilia. Giovanni si separò da loro e ritornò a Gerusalemme.
Preghiera per tutti gli uomini d’ogni condizione.
ODIO, Creatore e Conservatore di tutto il genere umano, ti preghiamo umilmente per tutti gli uomini di ogni sorta e condizione; che ti piaccia far nota la tua via a loro, e la tua salute fra tutte le nazioni. Ed in particolare ti preghiamo per la prosperità della Chiesa Universale; affinchè sia diretta, e governata dal tuo Santo Spirito, in modo che tutti coloro i quali si professano e si chiamano Cristiani siano condotti nella via della verità; e mantengano la fede nell’unità dello spirito, nel legame della pace, ed in santità di vita. Finalmente, raccomandiamo alla tua paterna bontà tutti quelli, che di sono in qualunque modo afflitti, o tribolati nello spirito, nei corpo, o nelle facoltà; Questo puo dirsi quando qualcuno deridera le preghiere della congregazione[*Specialmente a coloro per i quali le nostre preghiere son richieste;] affinchè ti piaccia di consolarli e sollevarli secondo le loro diverse necessità, concedendo loro pazienza nei loro patimenti, ed una felice liberazione da tutte le loro afflizioni. E tutto questo te, lo chiediamo, per amor di Gesù Cristo. Amen.
